Mark Brusse holds his first solo exhibition, 'Les nuages habités' in South Korea in 25 years.
Brusse was born in the Netherlands and began his artistic career in Paris. He joined Nouveau Nealism, a French avant-garde art movement, and participated in the second Paris Biennale, starting with his work on wooden objects.
After traveling to Mexico and the U.S., he worked with Fluxus, a group that performs avant-garde art. He also collaborated with John Cage, an avant-garde musician, while performing arts on the streets.

Since 1970, he has been immersed in the work of Assemblazu with objects abandoned by environmental art. Later, in the 1980s, he showed interest in painting work, started various flat works, and showed excellent talent as a painter.
In 1988, the artist installed a large sculpture at the Seoul Olympic Park as an event for the Buyeo Sculpture Symposium. He lived in Seoul for six months and experienced Korean culture. He also loved Eastern culture and stayed in Korea and Japan to produce work in various genres such as assorted blazes, collages, ceramics, and paintings.

Brusse shows a smudging effect in the exhibition using dry pastels on water-fed canvas. He developed the style by applying the tempera technique used in ancient murals. His paintings create an atmosphere like a fairy tale image, giving him a very different sensibility from his object sculptures.
The exhibition will be held until February 29 next year at Gallery 508, located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
