Valerius de Saedeleer

AT THE HEIGHT OF A GLOBAL ECONOMIC RECESSION, acclaimed Belgian landscape painter Valerius de Saedeleer began to explore the commercial potential of limited-edition reproductive prints both as a means of income generation and to create a greater awareness of his artworks through their wider distribution. Between 1930 and 1938 Saedeleer collaborated with highly-skilled printmakers Jan de Cooman (1893-1949), Armand Apol (1879-1950), Frans Ermengem (1893-1985) and Roger Hebbelinck (1912-1987) to produce intaglio transcriptions in colour after some of his most popular canvases.
