Sold for $583,000 against an estimate of $550,000 to $650,000
Only 13 of these cabriolets are believed to have come to the U.S. market, and this one is exemplary. It remained in the same family until 2013 (the first owner received it as a high school graduation gift) and the Scott Grundfor Company completed a top-notch $600,000-plus restoration last year.
Once the work was done, the consignor proudly paraded it in concours at Pebble Beach, Santa Fe, Amelia Island, and Pinehurst. It drove home with Best in Class and Best in Show-Elegance awards from Santa Fe, Best in Class from Amelia Island, and a Pinehurst Award from Pinehurst. The beautiful BMW still retains its original tool kit, jack, and owner’s manual. The car has also been repainted in period-correct charcoal grey metallic.
