Former President Roh Moo-hyun¡¯s Funeral to Take Place at Gyeongbok Palace

The funeral service for former president Roh Moo-hyun will be held at Gyeongbok Palace in central Seoul at 11 a.m. on May 29. The burial place will be near his private residence in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province.

The funeral procession will be held on May 29 at 5 a.m. in Bongha, Gimhae, where his coffin will be placed. After holding the public funeral ceremony in Gyeongbok Palace, the late president¡¯s remains will be moved to a crematorium in Suwon and his ashes then will be transported back to Bongha Village.

Now that the funeral schedule has been arranged, the government will form a funeral committee as soon as possible to set up concrete funeral plans. A large-scale funeral committee consisting of 1,000 people will be formed.

On day four of the late president¡¯s tragic death on Tuesday morning, more than 450,000 condolers, the highest in history, is expected to visit Bongha Village to pay tributes to the former president.

It is still unclear whether President Lee Myung-bak will visit Bongha Village to pay tributes to the former President Roh.

¡°Now that it has been finalized the national funeral ceremony will be held at Gyeongbok Palace, the circumstance has changed,¡± a high-ranking Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House) official explained on this day.
