Considered France's leading inventor of improvements in photography, Louis Lumiere worked with his brother Auguste to develop the first French moviemaking machines before the turn of the century.

Auguste and Louis combined their talents in 1895 to turn out moviemaking machines and equipment whose principles were used in the film industry for decades.

Louis and Auguste came out with their camera and projector three years after Thomas Edison discovered his method for reproducing movement with successive photographs.
