Jim Parsons has been married to his husband, Todd Spiewak, since 2017.

Parsons played Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory from 2007 to 2019, during which he was the world’s highest-paid TV actor in 2018, according to Forbes, and received four Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.

In the middle of his reign as one of the most lovable characters on TV, Parsons quietly came out as gay in a 2012 New York Times interview. He also revealed that he had been in a relationship for the last decade.

The following year, Parsons described his then-boyfriend, Spiewak, as his “favorite person on Earth” in his Emmy acceptance speech.

After their wedding at the Rainbow Room in New York City, Parsons told Stephen Colbert what marrying Spiewak meant to him. “To be in love, to find a love in that way, is as close to anything I can imagine doing in life that brings me close to the feeling of God — or whatever that is for you," he said.

A couple of years earlier, the Young Sheldon star said on The View, “We have a very, very happy life."

So, who is Jim Parsons’ husband? Here’s everything to know about Todd Spiewak and his relationship with The Big Bang Theory actor.

He studied graphic design

Spiewak was born in 1977 to Elly Rosen and Lew Spiewak and has a bachelor's in fine arts, focused on graphic design, from Boston University.

According to the notes from an awards show for LGBTQ+ educators where the couple were honored, Spiewak has worked on campaigns for companies including American Express, Barnes & Noble, KitchenAid and The New York Times.

"My husband and I met on Nov. 15, 2002," Parsons told PEOPLE in December 2022. "I'll never forget that late fall into the holidays when we spent so much time together just falling more in love. Every time there's that smell when the air gets cold in New York, it always reminds me."

In 2015, Spiewak was in the audience as Parsons took part in an Inside the Actors Studio interview, and shared how they first crossed paths: on a blind date at a karaoke bar.

“My boss and Jim’s best friend from grad school were friends, two women, and they hooked us up," Spiewak said. "They were with us on the first date, so we weren’t alone."

Though they enjoyed the company, Parsons wasn't thrilled about performing. In 2016, to mark their 14th anniversary, he posted a since-deleted throwback photo of the couple singing on Instagram and joked, “One of his greatest gifts to me is that he no longer takes me to sing karaoke."

Parsons revealed in a 2012 New York Times profile that he had been in a relationship for 10 years, though Spiewak wasn't named in the piece.

However, the pair had attended events together, and Parsons mentioned Spiewak, among others, in his acceptance speech after he won an Emmy for his role as Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory in 2010.

When he won for the third time in 2013, the actor paid tribute to his then-boyfriend again by dedicating the award to his "favorite person on the planet, Todd Spiewak."

In 2015, the couple founded the company That’s Wonderful Productions, which focuses on funding unique projects related to current events and social justice issues.

Parsons and Spiewak are executive producers on the sitcom Young Sheldon, a Big Bang Theory spinoff, and their company has produced Call Me Kat and Special, among other projects.

On May 13, 2017, Parsons and Spiewak married at the Rainbow Room in N.Y.C.

Three years earlier, in May 2014, the Normal Heart cast member told Ellen DeGeneres that he wasn’t in any rush to tie the knot. “I feel like I haven’t been enthusiastic enough about it and now I feel like I’m a loser for the cause,” he said.

In September 2017, a few months after their wedding, the actor explained why the pair waited to get married during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“We just didn't care about the act of it that much, to be honest with you," Parsons said. "That sounds cold in a way but I finally thought: 'Well, let's have a party then for the celebration and we'll go ahead and legalize this thing.' "

Still, it turned out to be “much more meaningful” in the moment and afterward than he expected.

“I had been an adult gay person for so long at a time where that wasn't possible where life was 'fine' for me,” he said. "It's been resonantly much more meaningful for me afterward than I ever saw coming."

Parsons and Spiewak have had three dogs together. They adopted their first dog, Otis, as an 8-week-old puppy in 2003, after they’d been together for about a year. Parsons paid tribute to Otis following the dog's death in May 2018, writing that the pup "was and will remain a major part of who we are as a family" in a thread on X (formerly known as Twitter).

One of their other dogs, Rufus, turned 13 in April 2022, and Parsons celebrated the occasion with an Instagram post, in which he shared a watercolor painting of the dog created by Spiewak. Their other dog, Stevie, was born in September 2017, as seen in a different Instagram tribute.

Along with Parsons, Spiewak is an advocate for young people in the LGBTQ+ community. In October 2013, the youth advocacy group GLSEN honored the pair with the Inspiration Award.

In his speech, Parsons said, “I've never considered my relationship with Todd to be an act of activism. Rather simply, it's an act of love, coffee in the morning, going to work, washing the clothes, taking the dogs [out] — a regular life, boring love."
