Jane Seymour is proud to honor her longtime friend Pierce Brosnan.

The Fast Charlie star, 70, was recognized Thursday night at the Oscar Wilde Awards in Santa Monica, California, alongside fellow actor Molly Shannon as well as Oscar-winning visual-effects supervisor Richard Baneham.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, Seymour, 73, admitted that she "can't even remember" when she first met Brosnan, and feels as if she has "known him forever."

"I knew him when his late wife was alive. That's the first time I met him, in Malibu probably," she said, referencing the actor's first wife Cassandra "Cassie" Harris, who died of ovarian cancer in December 1991 at age 39. (The couple's daughter Charlotte died of the same illness 22 years later, at age 41.)

Of her relationship with Brosnan, who later married Keely Shaye Brosnan, "We are neighbors," Seymour told PEOPLE Thursday night. "We live in Malibu. Our kids went to school together, and we've just known each other forever."

The former Bond girl said that the pair (who did not star in the James Bond films at the same time) "keep trying to work together."

"We haven't found a project yet, but it's something we both said we want to do. We both paint and I go to his art shows, so yeah, he's great," Seymour said.

Asked about what she values in her friendship with Brosnan, she said, "We talk quite deeply about life and kids. And he's a really good guy, and he's funny and irreverent and talented."

Ahead of being honored at the Oscar Wilde Awards, Brosnan and his wife of more than 20 years posed for photos together as they walked the red carpet at the offices of Bad Robot Productions.

Brosnan married Keely (née Smith) in 2001 after the couple first met in 1994. They went on to welcome two sons: Dylan, 27, and Paris, 23. (Brosnan also shares late daughter Charlotte and sons Christopher, 51, and Sean, 40, with late actress Harris.)

While being recognized at Thursday's ceremony, Brosnan reflected on his decades-long acting career during his speech.

"I have been an actor all my life. I have been an actor since I was 18. I came here to America in 1982. I dropped in on a wing and a prayer, and I got very lucky," he shared.

The Mamma Mia! star also recalled of leaving London, "I borrowed 2,000 pounds from a bank manager in Wimbledon, and said I had a job here in America and I hopped on Freddie Laker. I think the tickets cost a hundred quid and you bring your own sandwiches."

"I don't remember what I ate, wasn't a sandwich, but I ended up on Sunset and renting a car from Rent-A-Wreck," Brosnan continued. "I drove over Laurel Canyon and to my very first interview in 1982. And they were looking for Remington Steele. They said, 'Yes.' I said 'Yes.' I got extremely lucky."
