Chris Evans’ collection of tattoos is simply Marvel-ous.
The actor, 39, recently shocked and delighted fans with a shirtless Instagram video that showed off his chest full of ink — including what appeared to be several new designs, including a star on his hip than many suspect is a tribute to his onscreen alter ego, Captain America.
But the Boston native’s been showing off his tats since the start of his Hollywood career, and has a number of pieces dedicated to his family, friends and the MCU. Below, the scoop on all of Evans’ tattoos and their meanings.

1. Avengers
To mark the release of “Avengers: Infinity War” in 2018, the cast celebrated with matching ink depicting the superhero team’s logo and the number six. “Five of the original six Avengers got a tattoo … the one who opted out being Mark Ruffalo,” Robert Downey Jr. told Entertainment Weekly at the time.
“It was (Scarlett) Johansson’s idea, and she and (Chris) Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to LA, he did me, did (Jeremy) Renner, and then we just bullied (Chris) Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it.”
Evans’ is located on the right side of his torso over his ribs, but no clear photos of the design exist — yet.

2. Taurus
The star has his mother Lisa’s zodiac sign inked on his left upper arm.

3. "Loyalty"
Gucci Gotta love a loyal guy! Evans gave fans a good look at this tattoo, located on his right upper arm, in his Gucci Guilty campaign with Evan Rachel Wood.

4. 氏
FilmMagic Not even superheroes are immune from body-art bumbles. When Evans began his career, he sported the Chinese character 氏 (shì) just below his “loyalty” tattoo, apparently believing it translated to “family” — when in fact it means “surname.” He’s since had it removed.

5. "In loving memory of Bardsley with me always"
Millennium Entertainment One of many tattoos Evans showed off in his 2011 film “Puncture,” this is a tribute to the actor’s late friend Matt Bardsley, who died in an accident in 2003.

6. Eckhart Tolle quote
Millennium Entertainment Evans has a quote by spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle on the upper left side of his chest. It reads: “When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world.”

7. "SCS"
Splash News Evans showed off his ankle tattoo, which features the initials “SCS” — in honor of his sisters, Carly and Shanna, along with his brother, Scott — while filming “A Many Splintered Thing” with Michelle Monaghan in 2012.

The actor gave fans a peek at one of his latest additions — a regal eagle soaring across his pecs — while snuggling with his dog, Dodger, in September 2020. -

Evans really loves his dog — as evidenced by this selfie of the pup, named Dodger, resting on Chris’ tattoo of his name.
