Julianne Moore fled her former modest Montauk country cottage for a gated mansion there, sources say, after she once found a drunken stranger passed out on her couch.
East End sources recounted to Page Six that the Oscar winner’s previous Hamptons abode was a humble 1,000-square-foot cottage with three bedrooms, which she bought with director husband Bart Freundlich for just over $1 million in 2007. We hear that Moore didn’t mind that some friendly fans were known for popping by the address to try and spot the star, who eventually put the property on the market in 2015 for about $3.5 million.
Sources said that the last straw was when Moore one morning found a drunken female stranger crashing on her couch, who’d apparently been overserved at one of Montauk’s nearby hot spots. Moore and her family then decamped for a much more private property — complete with a gated driveway surrounded by 10-plus acres of land in a secluded enclave. Her new neighborhood includes Andy Warhol’s former oceanfront estate, Eothen, which quietly was put up for sale in May for $65 million by art collector and dealer Adam Lindemann. The Post reported celebs have been circling.
Moore and Freundlich have been seen out in Montauk at a Black Lives Matter protest, where Moore wore a camo jacket, and the couple held a homemade poster. She also appeared in the cringy, publicly mocked celeb video on white privilege, “I Take Responsibility,” with Sarah Paulson, Aaron Paul, Kesha, Justin Theroux, Debra Messing and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Moore recently starred with Alec Baldwin in a virtual reading of “Same Time, Next Year,” directed by Bob Balaban, to benefit East Hampton venue Guild Hall. She also appeared in another benefit reading, of Peter Hedges’ play “Good as New,” for MCC Theater.
