The owner of Kelly Farm Trails in Yukon says teens started a fire on their property and vandalized it.

The owners say they don't want to get the police involved but would like to talk to the teens and teach them a few life lessons.

Paula Kelly says her bike trail sits on 42 acres of private property but she opens it up to the public.

On Monday, she says a volunteer stopped to check on the land.

"One of our trail volunteers came out and noticed there was a fire still smoldering," Kelly said.

Kelly says teens had been posting on social media about starting the fire.

"Not only did they start a large fire and throw hay in it, they left the fire," Kelly said. "That is worrisome."

The trees along the trail are cedar and catch fire easily.

"It impacts police and fire," Kelly said. "They are great partners with us and we would hate for them to be injured fighting a fire out here."

Kelly says the vandals picked up art rocks and threw them into the blaze.

"These aren’t things of value but they are significant to us," Kelly said. "We noticed things that are missing or broken."

Kelly says she remembers what it was like to be a teen and she wants to let them go with a warning.

"I would like to meet with them and teach them some lessons on responsible fire management and being respectful to others property," Kelly said.

Kelly says it is fortunate nothing was seriously damaged and no one was hurt.
