Why Holland Taylor refuses to work with girlfriend Sarah Paulson: I ‘can’t imagine’

She knows not to mix business and pleasure.

Holland Taylor revealed during the 2024 Emmy Awards that she could never imagine working on a project with her longtime girlfriend, Sarah Paulson.

“I can’t imagine,” Taylor, 81, told Variety’s Mark Malkin during an interview while on the red carpet Monday.

“I don’t like seeing couples doing things because I’m always aware of the coupledom,” the “Two and a Half Men” alum continued.

According to the “Hollywood” alum, the pair have been approached with “one or two” projects, but have turned them down.

Despite being steadfast in her desire to not work with Paulson, 49, Taylor did let it slip that she wouldn’t be opposed to playing opposite the “American Horror Story” alum in a 1955 play called “The Chalk Garden.”

The show, which is a murder mystery written by British playwright Enid Bagnold, follows an elderly grandmother, a governess and a disturbed child who discovers a grisly murder in her caretaker’s past.

Bagnold’s show was later adapted into a 1964 film starring screen legends Deborah Kerr and Hayley Mills.

“It’s a very rarified kind of play,” Taylor commented when Malkin said that it could happen.

The “Legally Blonde” actress later appeared on the Emmys stage with her on-screen son Jon Cryer to pay tribute to “Two and a Half Men” and present the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Taylor and Paulson, who’ve often made headlines for their 32-year age gap, began dating in December 2015 after meeting at a party nearly a decade earlier. Paulson understands onlookers might see their romance as “unconventional,” but it’s not what matters to her.

“I didn’t choose to fall in love with the person I fell in love with. But I think why it’s interesting to people is that on paper, it’s unconventional,” Paulson told Elle in 2018.

“For a person who might find themselves in a situation that they fear will be misperceived or judged, maybe they could see me living my life in a way that is authentic to me — just trying to be as real as possible. If that inspires anybody else, that can’t be a bad thing.”

Taylor later joked that it was a “mystery” as to why Paulson was still with her.

“I’m surprised by Sarah. I mean, that we love each other and respond to each other this way is not the surprise, but that she would make a commitment like this and that she would share her life with me is a constant surprise every day really,” she told Us Weekly in January 2020. “I basically am following her lead and I’m blessed.”
