Irish PM tests positive for COVID after meeting with President Biden

The prime minister of Ireland pulled out of a Washington DC St. Patrick’s Day meeting with President Joe Biden after testing positive for COVID-19.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin, 61, had interacted with Biden but was not in close contact with the president on Wednesday, the White House said.

Martin tested positive and left the Ireland Funds Gala at the National Building Museum, where he sat maskless next to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi while Biden delivered remarks.

Martin took a precautionary PCR test after a member of his delegation tested positive, the Irish Times reported.

Word of his illness came a day after second gentleman Doug Emhoff tested positive for the virus after his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, spent the day with Biden.
