A new trailer for The Garfield Movie has given us our first glimpse at Garfield’s latest adventure.

Chris Pratt voices the iconic Lasagna-loving cartoon cat in the upcoming animated movie, with Samuel L. Jackson joining in a surprising role: Garfield’s long-lost dad.

“Hey, Junior,” says Vic as Garfield introduces him as his “father”... that’s right, it looks as though their reunion isn’t quite going to be plain sailing.

The trailer opens with a touching flashback that shows Garfield as a young kitten, first encountering his own John as the lonely human enjoys a pizza at a local Italian restaurant, all by himself. Enter the cute kitten who steals his heart as well as his food. Aww.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

“Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”

It looks as though Vic isn’t back out of the goodness of his heart, but instead gets Garfield and Odie embroiled in a mysterious heist. There’s a pretty impressive voice cast for this one, too, as Pratt and Jackson are joined by Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, Bowen Yang, and Luke Cinque-White. Mark Dindal directed The Garfield Movie based on a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds.

The Garfield Movie was previously slated for release in February 2024 but the new trailer confirms it has been pushed back to the summer. An animated Garfield Movie has been in the works since August 2016.
