Peter M. Altieri Hall of Fame Room

Named in memory of Montclair State University alumnus and baseball legend Peter Altieri ’62, the Peter M. Altieri Athletic Hall of Fame Room was officially dedicated in a ceremony at the Panzer Athletic Center on April 16, 2010. A star athlete in baseball and basketball, Altieri was captain of the baseball team and led Montclair State to one of its finest seasons in 1961 as the team fashioned a 15-3 record. His many athletic achievements include a .467 batting average during the 1961 season and a 26-game hitting streak in 1962. Both are University records that still stand today.Altieri was twice named first-team All-Conference and twice received the Most Valuable Player Award. In 1962 he received the MAC Outstanding Senior Award and the Charles P. Turek Award for dedication to the sport.After graduating from Montclair State, Altieri went on to earn a master’s degree from Arizona State University, and served as principal at Cortez High School in Phoenix before being named district administrator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics for the Glendale Union High School District in Glendale, Arizona. In 1983, he was awarded Athletic Director of the Year by the Arizona Interscholastic Athletics Administrators Association.Altieri was inducted into the Montclair State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978.
