William Cuthbert Faulkner was born on September 25, 1897 to Murry Cuthbert Falkner and Maud Butler.
He had 3 younger brothers; Murry Charles “Jack” Falkner, John Falkner, and Dean Swift Falkner. All of the boys changed the spelling of their last name from “Falkner” to “Faulkner” except for Jack. John Faulkner also became a professional writer.
William Cuthbert Faulkner was the great-grandson of Colonel William Clark Falkner, who served in the Civil War.
William Faulkner married Estelle Oldham in 1929 and they had a daughter, Jill.
William Faulkner was an alcoholic. He wouldn’t drink as much while writing, but he would binge after he completed a project.
Faulkner was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes for his novels A Fable and The Reivers
William Faulkner won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949, but he was actually 1949, but he wasn’t given the award until 1950. He did not like the fame he got for this recognition.
