Stayed for two nights to break up a trip North and it turned out to be a great decision. The hotel grounds are beautiful, with a small lake, nice buildings and ducks and swans everywhere. We had great weather and the opportunity to sit outside (they have a nice garden area inside the building with the rooms) was fantastic. Also, the pub has tables by the pond and great to get a drink, we even had dinner, next to the water with the ducks walking among the tables. Rooms are comfortable but not exceptional. Service is friendly. Despite the beautiful grounds, the walking trails near the hotel, including along a channel, are underwhelming. I was also not that impressed with the nearby towns but the RAF Museum, 30 mins away, is worth an afternoon.

I've been here on many occasion now. Just being a short drive, or a pleasant walk along the canal from my parental home means I've enjoyed most sorts of occasion here. A prom in highschool, a wedding last year, and endless dinners and lunches.

The staff are always marvellous, and the food is always great. The bar is extremely dark, which is always a huge shock, but particularly on days like Saturday where the sun was so bright!
I was feeling a little fragile and not particularly hungry after a breakfast treat in stafford with a wonderful friend, so plumped for something light. I fancied the duck salad, and was told it was off the menu, I said I would leave it, as everything else seemed quite heavy or dairy Laiden. It turned out a couple of minutes later- the only thing they didn't have was the peanuts, due to a severe allergy guest that day (why they didn't say that to begin with, I don't know) but it was wonderful, the dick wasn't too fatty, and fell off the bone wonderfully. Everything intermingled beautifully, giving you a different taste every time you took a bite.

I do recommend this place, most certainly- but I will say- do double check fine print if you are having your wedding here! My uncle fell into the pudding trap last summer- so be careful!

The service and pub food were good. Since breakfast opens at 7, the only options prior is room service which has a limited menu. Some of the rooms are less than ideal ... see pics

This a function hotel. Weddings, birthdays are welcomed here. I've been to a birthday party here (I was speaking after Tom O'Connor's act!) and it was excellent. I ve also been here for a meal on a number of occasions and the food and serivce is good, but the bar is fairly dire. And when you're after a nice quiet hotel, wedding parties can be a bit tedious.

The setting is good, with a large pond outside, but the sound of the M6, just a few fields away, is a bit of a shame.

The bedrooms are fine, although I don't want to buy a teddy bear, so don't put one on my bed next time, Mr Manager - OK?

My fiancé and I have been recently searching around for wedding venues and one that has always taken our fancy is The Moat House at Acton Trussell as we have had fantastic reviews from there. I recently had a look around and have also been to a wedding which has been held there and I truly think it is a stunning venue who offers fantastic quality service at brilliant prices.

      The address is as follows;

      The Moat House
      Lower Penkridge Road
      Acton Trussell
      Staffordshire
      ST17 0RJ

Ok so the first thing I should tell you is that the location is absolutely stunning. Acton Trussell is a small little country village which is just located away from Stafford but within easy distance. The M6 is not too far away and it really is easy to find but is also hid away if you didn't know it was there which is lovely. When you get there you will smell the numerous farms around the area and you are deep in the countryside which I personally love.

The hotel is by a canal where several barges can always be seen and it is all very picturesque with loads of ducks and swans wondering around which is pretty. They also have very sweet gardens around and the lake is huge.

Ok so the actual hotel is very welcoming when you walk inside with its neutral décor and very friendly staff. They have comfortable seats in the waiting area and because the place is so huge you do not really want to go wondering around until you know where you are going. So receptionists are very friendly and they have around 40 rooms in this hotel so quite a few.

Walking around the hotel you get to see how nice it is. They have several rooms including one which opens up onto its very own private patio. There are rooms leading over to the front gardens and rooms that are hidden away from anywhere so no prying eyes can see you.

With respect to weddings which is what we were looking for they have loads of rooms. There was a massive room which could probably seat over 100 people. Then you walk into a completely different part of the hotel to go up some stairs and find yourself in a very characteristic room which seems like a converted barn to me.

Then there is a huge conservatory which is stunning and looks directly over onto the canal which is very lovely. Each room has character and seems completely different to the others.

The actual Hotel rooms are stunning also. They are of a reasonable size and contain a very comfortable bed, seating area and I should mention the stunning views you get because if the area the Hotel is in. The shower was really nice and boiling hot which I love and I had a very pleasant stay there.

The food is my final thing to talk about because it is yummy. The wedding package food is cooked to perfection which is what you expect really and then breakfast was delicious with lots of choice for continental or English and again cooked to perfection. Drinks are served at the numerous bars around the hotel and they are well stocked so a good selection is available.

I suppose I should tell you about the prices. Well for a room they range from £70 to £100 per night which is not that bad considering you get breakfast the next morning. The wedding packages I will not go into as it is different for everyone but they are very competitively priced which is nice.

All in all I think this is a superb hotel with a great location and a lot to offer. I am sure I didn't explore everything during my stay but it is a prime spot that I am thinking about for my wedding so they must have done a good job.

Well worth a stay if you are in the area.

      Thanks for reading.

Lovely place for weddings, very pritty and well situated by the canal and also close to Acton Trussell which is a small little country village near stafford.

Its great for a weekend, an anniversery, honeymoon etc and the prices are not that expensive for what you get.

It is beautiful for walking and relaxing. you must try!

Great venue and easy location off the M6 motorway. I attended a family reunion with folks coming from all over the UK and Oz so location was great. They catered for 30 of us for Sunday lunch. The food was tasty, timely and service excellent. The team were very good looking after us on the day and my sister who arranged everything said they were excellent when she was booking the venue. Would recommend the Moat House to anyone.... We'll use it again for the next gathering!!
