Wonderful lively atmosphere, outstanding food (the beef bourguignon was truly exceptional, tender beef, perfect noodles, tasty sauce). The service was attentive but not rushed. Highly recommended if you want a terrific meal where it feels like a "city coming together" -- the tables are close, but not too close, the ceilings are high so it does not feel cramped, the vibe is exciting and lively so you smile and laugh. Oh, and the food is top notch. You should go.

There are photos on a wall with visitors that ate at this French restaurant. It feels like Bastille day. The French flag? The two people next to me were speaking French. There was an Asian family here. I wanted to try the French onion soup. I have had it on a cruise. I wanted ravioli with salmon..smaller size. I also sat with myself because you can't get me somebody to sit with...that I want to sit with...today or tomorrow..or next year...The picture of the president visiting this spot is funny and what else can you say...
It was more than I wanted to pay and I had to pay. If you want to..I don't see why not...then I walked back home. Festive..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 19, 2024
We made a reservation for 4 people for 8:30p on a Saturday. It was busy when we arrived but we were seated promptly and bread + water was brought to us quickly.
Giving 3 stars for the food. We ordered the seafood raviolis, onion soup, beef tenderloin with fries, lobster bisque mussels with fries, and the creme brulee. When the order came out, they had brought us the plain raviolis instead of the seafood ones, which I pointed out to the server. We opted to keep the incorrect food as we were all hungry. The soup and raviolis as starters were both very tasty and I would recommend. When the entrees came out, the mussels were so so disappointing. No flavor, the base was more like a gumbo than a lobster bisque, and there was no lobster or shrimp but only weird little chunks of salmon and tiny squid rings. We thought we must have been brought the wrong dish so we sent it back. The menu stated it was mussels with lobster bisque, lobster meat and shrimps. The remake they brought out was even worse as it has no seafood in it at all other than the mussels. I didn't even bother complaining to the waiter at this point because it was late and we were tired. The sauce that came with the steak was oily and broken. The creme brulee we ordered as a dessert was great so at least it ended on a good note.
Giving 3 stars for service because we kept having to ask for things like water or silverware. And because the staff kept getting mixed up on what we ordered.
Removing one star because one of the staff (not our waiter) rudely told us that the lobster meat was there and perhaps we could not see it... sir, if it's that small please don't list it on the menu. SMH. Such a shame because this place was on my list for so long to try. Very sad :(Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 31160200Feb 18, 2024
Have you ever found yourself looking for some new cultural experience, searching for the kind of place you can tell your friends is "authentic"? Have you ever sat puzzling over where your next food jaunt would be without feeling convinced by what you see?? Have you ever...I'm assuming the answer is yes! So please Brad, what are you getting at?? Bistrot Du Coin is worth stopping the scrolling for and starting the strolling on over.
You'll find yourself walking into a subtle cafe without great ornament, but certainly with the heart of a welcoming owner! Having lived near and visited France many times, I feel transported to those relieving moments in the local bistrot after a cold hard work day when going to places like Bistrot Du Coin.
We supped on a handful of dishes from the mussels (yum) to the beef bourguignon to my dish, the French onion soup! When I arrived at the dessert, instead of my usual belly pat as a way to justify avoiding sweets, my eyes immediately convinced me to try some of the many options brought to the table. The solace I found in giving in came from cracking the crust and eating the first spoonful of crème brûlée!
If you find yourself in pursuit of something authentic where the owners "really know what they're doing" then Bistrot Du Coin will certainly fit the bill. Actually though, the bill is reasonable too! Give it a try!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kepra J.Gilbert, AZ0968Apr 28, 2024
Wow!!! We got to choose our seat, the staff was attentive and the food was EXCELLENT!!!
This quaint French restaurant is close to DuPont Circle and provides a wonderful meal! Started with French Onion Soup-excellent flavor. We had the Ribeye, it was ok. The frites were good. The Coq Au Vin was one of the best meals I've had. Sauce was flavorful and superb! We ate all of the wonderful bread as well. Highly Recommend!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 556179479Nov 6, 2023Updated review
Amazing French food in a beautiful restaurant. This place feels authentic, warm, welcoming, and the right kind of busy. The service is always fantastic and I eat here whenever I'm in the city.
We had a group dinner so ordered several appetizers and bottles of wine. I highly recommend the French onion soup and escargots, as well as the mussels in lobster bisque. The house steak frites is always cooked perfectly and if you have time and space try to order dessert.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 14, 2015Previous reviewLove the food, love the French accents. It's a pretty large place, so it can get crowded sometimes, but it's definitely worth the wait. .
The mussels and frites are some of the best in the area. I slightly overdose on carbs whenever I eat here, but the fries and the bread are worth the guilt. they also do great escargots, not overly buttery or garlicky like they're trying to hide some dark secret.
You can go by just to brush up on your French over a bottle of wine if that's your thing. - 85212524Aug 27, 2023Updated review
An update to my previous review:
I visited this place yesterday again. The same great and timely service, the same nice ambiance, and the same scrumptious food as I described in my previous reviews.
We ordered French onion soup, mussels, escargot, tartar steak, and hanger steak. All very tasty. The steak was a little bit too salty. But still delicious. We paid our meal with glasses of French wine. Highly recommend. How to have a French restaurant experience without one or two glasses of wine? We enjoyed our visit just like our past visits.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Oct 15, 2021Previous reviewOne of my favorite French restaurants in DC area. Beautiful atmosphere and tasty food. We ordered escargot, steak tartare, mussels, and hanger steak. All so tasty. I will definitely dine here again in my next trips to this beautiful city.

I'm in town for a conference and the hotel restaurant was clearly understaffed and overwhelmed so I took a quick walk down the street here.
The French onion soup was delicious!!
I ordered a side of frites that were disappointing. My cocktail was also disappointing- don't remember the name but it's bourbon based.
My server was extremely absent. I would have sent my cocktail back but he never bothered to ask me if I liked anything. It's a super cute place but I won't come back.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

This is probably my go to French spot for atmosphere and price. It has a no frills feel but also a genuine European vibe imo. The food I think is very good comfort French classic and always enjoy coming here. My boyfriend, who is an escargot fan, said that these are probably the best he has had. I love that they offer cassoulet as it is one of my fav meals but not super easy to come by even in French restaurants.

Sadly this was a really bad experience. We have been traveling to DC and eating at Bistrot du Coin since they opened. We've bragged about it to friends and family for years. Last night's experience will prevent us from ever returning. We had a reservation and were seated. The dining room had only a few tables taken. We ordered French onion soup which was just ok - it lacked flavor. The mussels were also just ok - broth lacked any real flavor. Entrees were roasted chicken and filet with béarnaise. While the skin of the chicken was crispy and golden, the meat was dry as saw dust and had a reheated flavor. The filet was charred and burned black on the outside though it was well cooked inside. It tasted like it had been cooked on a grill that hadn't been cleaned in a while.
Our table got dropped as the crowd increased so we only saw our server once after the main entrees arrived. We asked a passing staff person for boxes and our check. When they arrived, so did our original waiter with dessert menus. At that same moment the manager of the restaurant came over and removed the menus from our hands and informed the waiter that we were leaving.
It was disorganized and unwelcoming and we just won't spent $250 on a meal at this establishment again. Very sad how far they've fallen.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
