KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State football signee Donovan Westmoreland became the highest-ranked recruit in program history when he signed his National Letter of Intent with the team in January. The Griffin, Ga. native arrives as a transfer from the University of South Carolina.

Westmoreland, a four-star prospect per 247Sports, was ranked as the 40th-best player in the state of Georgia, the 39th-best linebacker in the country and No. 408 overall by the outlet for the 2021 recruiting class. He was also rated as the 59th-best player in the state and 39th-best outside linebacker by Rivals.

"We are excited to have Donovan join a talented position group on our team," said head coach Brian Bohannon. "He's an in-state kid that displays the high-level of talent located in Georgia. I am excited to watch him showcase his abilities as we move into FBS and Conference USA."

The South Carolina transfer appeared in nine games over his two seasons with the Gamecocks. Westmoreland saw action in seven games as a freshman and was selected to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll. He competed in USC's first two games as a sophomore before receiving a redshirt.

Westmoreland is the fifth transfer the Owls have landed from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in school history. The Owls' top-ranked recruit joins the program's highest-rated recruiting class in team history. KSU signed six three-star recruits during the early period in December per 247Sports and On3.

The group marked the 11th recruiting class in Owl history and is KSU's first as a member of Conference USA.

KSU officially becomes a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) on July 1, 2024, and will compete within Conference USA. The Owls have three FBS games already scheduled for their inaugural season, as the team hosts the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in between trips to UTSA and San Jose State.
