Local Environment In Yatton there is a collection of recyclable materials. Your paper, glass, drinks cans, aluminium foil, textiles and shoes can be put in a box provided by North Somerset Council. For more information contact 01934 888802. Alternatively look out for the recycling banks in the nearby villages and when passing drop in your papers, cans, used clothing and glass. Recycling is also available at Cheston Combe amenity site, Backwell; Black Rock Amenity Site, Portishead or Hutton Moor, Weston-super-Mare. St Peter’s Hospice shop in Yatton precinct will take your saleable unwanted items, including clothing in good condition. If you wish to dispose of good furniture ring Hospice Care on 01934 877257. They will collect it and re-home it with a needy family. Don’t forget to recycle your spectacles and cases! Bell and Stenton in Yatton High Street accepts old spectacles for redistribution in developing countries. Yatton and Congresbury have a very active environmental group, YACWAG, which is working to create and maintain nature reserves. They are involved in a range of local projects and welcome new members. Contact Win Lowman on 01934 833596. Avon Fire and Rescue Service (Yatton) Yatton Fire Station in Rock Road is covered by retained firefighters who live locally and have other jobs in the community. They are called to respond to emergencies as and when needed. Contact Avon Fire & Rescue Service on 0117 9262061. In an emergency dial 999. Sport and Leisure There is a wealth of sport available within the local villages: cricket, football, rugby, tennis, badminton and bowls are all provided, while swimmers can go to Churchill Sports Centre where you will find a wide range of fitness and sports facilities. For more information about what is on offer there, ring Churchill Sports Centre on 01934 852303. Table tennis, various martial arts, volleyball and horse riding are also available locally, as well as a variety of fitness, dance and aerobics classes and rambling. Flower Shows, Fetes & Carnivals etc The Local Horticultural Societies put on shows in spring, summer and autumn with the largest being the summer shows. The Congresbury show is combined with the annual village fete and takes place in June. Yatton’s Summer Show will be held on 27th July in the Village Hall and outside stands on the Glebelands. There will be a variety of stalls and live music, refreshments including cream teas and plant sales. The Autumn Show will be held on 26th October from 2-4.30pm in the Village Hall.

They also hold a Spring Show in 2020 – dates to be confirmed. For details call Hillary on 01934 834889. Country Markets Markets are held locally in Yatton, Cleeve, Claverham and Kingston Seymour Village Halls. In Claverham, Kingston Seymour and Yatton markets are held monthly and in Cleeve the market is quarterly. Stalls include local produce, collectables and bric-a-brac. Look out for details in your monthly Yatton & Congresbury Paper and get along if you can. The Library Service Local libraries in Yatton, Congresbury and Winscombe are open to all North Somerset residents and provide books, magazines and other media. Yatton Library opening hours are Mon, Tue, Thur 9.30am5.00pm (open 10am first Tue of each month) and Sat 9.30am-1.00pm. Cleeve and Claverham are served by the mobile library on Monday (week 1). Claverham’s pickup is at Chestnut Drive, 11.15am-11.45pm, followed by Cleeve at Woodview, 11.50-12.20pm. The mobile library is a modern vehicle with disabled access, heating and air conditioning. Youth in the Community Young people are well catered for locally in a range of special interest sports clubs and a thriving Scouts and Guides movement. Council-funded youth clubs operate in Yatton, Congresbury and Churchill (Lower Langford) and many activities are also organised by and for the young people through the local churches. Christmas Activities In the week before Christmas, Yeo Valley Lions tour Yatton with Santa on a sleigh, playing Christmas carols and collecting money for local charitable causes. The Lions also organise carols in the shopping precinct. In Congresbury the parish council has arranged a Christmas Fair on Broad Street which will play host to the carol service and will include lots of stalls and childrens entertainment. The Yatton and Congresbury Paper A monthly paper is delivered door to door to over 5,500 homes and businesses in and around the villages of Churchill, Claverham, Cleeve, Congresbury and Yatton. The A5 publication carries a wealth of useful information about community activities and events as well as positive news and features from the villages. Local businesses can reach their local markets in a very cost effective way. The Yatton and Congresbury Paper supports local businesses by encouraging local residents to shop locally and to use local tradespeople.
