The Unreal Campaign

Who We Are

The Unreal Campaign is a consumer awareness program created by the International Trademark Association (INTA), which aims to educate young consumers (14-to-23-yearsold) about the dangers of product counterfeiting and the importance of trademarks. Amazon has been a sponsor of the Unreal Campaign over the years.

What Is Product Counterfeiting

The manufacturing or sale of products that are designed to look authentic and use a trademark without permission.

What We Do

Spread the message about the value of trademarks and the dangers of purchasing counterfeit products. Young consumers are an important part of e-commerce. We want them to understand the implications of purchasing counterfeit products. The Amazon and INTA partnership is a way to amplify our efforts to educate young consumers and entrepreneurs about the value of trademarks, which can help them make smart purchasing decisions.

Why It Matters

Fake goods have negative economic, health and safety effects on us, our family, our friends, and our communities. Counterfeiting is also tied to child labor and organized crime. Young people have a tremendous opportunity to impact their world and make a difference on this issue. Say “no” to what’s unreal.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION

CONFERENCE SAFETY

Your health and safety is important! We are excited to welcome over 22,000 attendees to DECA’s International Career Development Conference and want to promote the health and safety of everyone involved. As part of our plans to host a safe event, please follow our event requirements and recommendations below.

BE MINDFUL

Please understand that everyone has a differing comfort level, and some attendees may wish to socially distance when possible. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.

IF YOU’RE SICK, STAY BACK

Monitor your health daily. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath or other symptoms of illness. If you develop symptoms of illness, do not come to the event. If you develop symptoms while attending ICDC, stay in your hotel room and contact your advisor immediately.

FOLLOW TRAVEL GUIDELINES

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has guidelines for domestic travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Scan the QR code to read more.

PLAY IT SAFE AT THE HOTEL

Follow these guidelines when at your assigned conference hotel:

• Be alert when checking in. Protect your cash and valuables by keeping them with you.

• Never say your room number loudly enough for others to overhear or give it out to anyone you do not know.

• Be sure to lock your door when you are in your room as well as when you leave.

• Call the front desk to verify any unexpected deliveries or room service.

• Do not leave your door open while you are in the room.

• Always tell your advisor where you are going.

• Do not leave your room after curfew.

GENERAL SAFETY TIPS

• Never leave money or valuables unsecured in your room; use your hotel room’s safe.

• If you see any suspicious person or activity, notify hotel management.

• Ask the hotel for the most direct route to restaurants and shopping. Don’t wander through shortcuts.

• Don’t go out alone; travel with at least one other person. There is safety in numbers.

• Be where you are supposed to be. Delegates are required to attend all sessions and activities assigned including workshops, competitive events, committee meetings, general sessions, etc., for which they are registered.

• Always use sidewalks and crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing.

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

DECA Inc. is committed to creating and maintaining a healthy and respectful environment for all of our emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. Our philosophy is to ensure all members, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation or socio-economic status, are treated equally and respectfully. CONFERENCE PROFESSIONALISM

DRESS CODE

Professional appearance is an important aspect of the overall preparation of DECA members for the business world. To that end, DECA supports a dress code for its career-based functions that exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism while being non-discriminatory between genders.

DECA’s board of directors has developed the following official dress standards for the International Career Development Conference. Students, advisors and chaperones must follow the dress code. Competitors must wear an official DECA blazer during interaction with the judges. While official DECA blazers are not required during briefing and testing, professional business dress is required. Professional dress should also be worn to all conference sessions including workshops and special meal functions such as breakfasts and luncheons.

For a more polished, professional appearance, it is recommended that attendees wear appropriate hosiery/socks.

All skirts and dresses must be at or below the knee.

AN OFFICIAL DECA BLAZER IS REQUIRED TO RECEIVE RECOGNITION OR AN AWARD ON-STAGE.

WHEN APPEARING BEFORE JUDGES AND ON-STAGE

• Dress slacks, dress skirt or business dress

• Jeans, t-shirts and athletic shoes are not included in business casual attire

UNACCEPTABLE DURING DECA ACTIVITIES

• Skin-tight or revealing clothing

• Leggings or graphic designed hosiery/tights

• Clothing with printing that is suggestive, obscene or promotes illegal substances

• Unacceptable types of dress shoes include boat shoes, canvas or fabric shoes, flip flops or casual sandals, athletic shoes, industrial work shoes and hiking boots.

When judging adherence to the dress code, DECA directs advisors, teachers and chaperones to use observation as the tool for assessing compliance. It is inappropriate to touch a student or their clothing as a means of determining adherence to the dress code. DECA members who are not appropriately dressed will have a reasonable opportunity to meet the dress code prior to seeing a judge or being allowed on stage.

HONORARY LIFE AWARD

Honorary Life Membership is the highest award DECA can bestow on an individual. DECA is pleased to present a new recipient of this distinctive and deserving fellowship.

LISA DELAMPAN | NEW HAMPSHIRE

Lisa Delampan has dedicated 30 years to serving DECA members and advisors in New England as the Chartered Association Advisor for New Hampshire DECA and Maine DECA. Her unique ability to manage and promote DECA to members in multiple associations speaks to her passion and dedication to the organization’s mission. She has been instrumental in keeping the Maine and New Hampshire associations thriving and has recently been noticed for her diligent work to increase chapter involvement by 10% over pre-pandemic levels. While her leadership in DECA began in 1993, her involvement with the organization began in the 1980s as a student member of the Concord, New Hampshire DECA chapter.

In addition to serving Maine and New Hampshire, Lisa has dedicated time at the regional and international levels. Her leadership includes service as Vice Chair of the North Atlantic Region Board of Directors and two terms on the DECA Inc. Board of Directors, serving as Board President (2002-2003) and Treasurer (2004-2005, 2005-2006). Lisa has also volunteered on many DECA taskforces and committees, helping to shape the organization’s programmatic and strategic direction. For her leadership, Lisa was awarded DECA Inc.’s Outstanding Service Award in 2007. Lisa’s colleagues and peers recognize her as a dedicated and exemplary leader. She has shown unwavering support to DECA members and advisors. Her selflessness and willingness to take on new challenges have changed the lives of countless DECA members and are the qualities that define an Honorary Life Award Recipient.

The assistance of volunteers is critical to the successful operation of the competitive events program, the election of officers, the emerging leader series and other functions. Briefings for event directors and assistants are scheduled throughout the conference and are necessary for the success of the programs. Volunteers should check the program or app and report to the appropriate briefing session.
