Pippa Middleton and James Matthews prepare to marry in social event of the year

Love is in the air…
Pippa Middleton, sister to the Duchess of Cambridge, is to marry financier James Matthews on Saturday in what is being billed as the social event of the year.

That’s strange, my invitation appears to have got lost in the post!

No doubt the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge received theirs by special delivery. Aged 33, Ms Middleton is aunt to Prince George – the future heir to the throne – and Princess Charlotte. Born Philippa Charlotte Middleton, she is the middle child of the self-made millionaires Carole and Michael Middleton, whose mail-order business sells party paraphernalia.

She caused quite a stir when William and Kate tied the knot…

When the socialite acted as maid of honour at her sister’s 2011 wedding her derriere became an international talking point. She went on to sign lucrative contracts to write magazine columns and pen books.

Ah, yes, who could forget the classic Celebrate: A Year Of British Festivities For Families And Friends?
Ms Middleton’s lengthy party planning tome book earned a string of one-star reviews thanks to tips and insights including the fact that “sharp-bladed scissors” are best for cutting wrapping paper.

But now she’s got plenty to Celebrate once more?
The It girl first dated Mr Middleton in 2012 before the pair broke up and then rekindled their romance in 2015. Ms Middleton’s Eton-educated husband-to-be is 41 is a former professional racing driver. In 2001 he co-founded Eden Rock Capital Management and today he is the firm’s chief executive. Mr Matthews has been overshadowed in recent years by his brother, Spencer, who featured on the “structured reality” series Made in Chelsea.

Will the wedding be an event to remember?
The couple have spent an estimated £100,000 on a 140-foot glass marquee to house their 350 guests. Attendees, thought to include Prince Harry, will even be treated to a fly-by from aircraft including a Second World War Spitfire. Let’s just hope guests remember to use sharp-bladed scissors when wrapping their presents.
