Any of you know what this thing is?

Thumb of 2019-04-08/skopjecollection/d9a77c

Is it perchance echinocereus subinermis? Its the only plant with a similar shape and color scheme...?
And there was one more, of similar size, but with more ribs btw. Which is my main argument on why not what i suggested...
Just to avoid confusion : the white spots are dust from the gravel that became most of their growing medium.

Spines do not look like it. The thought has occurred to me, but its unlikely that i find two in wholesale, and with hard straight spines...

I'm thinking Astrophytum hybrid as well. They are so variable looking.

Astrophytum myriostigma is spineless. Completely.

A hybrid with Myriostigma as part of the cross could have some spines. I have a hybrid of one and it looks very similar to the OP photo except mine is variegated so color is different

Out of the bunch only ornatum has proper cactus like spines. They are always a little curved, and are more in number. And their color is wrong.

Garden Sages Plant Identifier
I'm always a little confused, Stefan: Why do you ask for help with ID's when, obviously, you have already made up your mind?

Keith, that's a beautiful plant.

Not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but maybe he wants more confirmation than an actual ID. I know, if that is the case, it should be worded as such, but just a guess.

I havent. Both suggestions (stenocereus pruinosus and astrophytum), cut close, but not close enough. There is not enough evidence to support mine either.
