Author. He was a prolific French author. He was a diplomat for the French Government before receiving international success with his first novel, "Les Amitiés Particulières" in 1943. The book received the Renaudot Award in 1944 and later in 1964 adapted to a film. Peyrefitte also received notoriety for his gay rights activism and supporting pederasty. After having a Roman Catholic schooling as a child, he studied literature at University of Toulouse. His many works include "L'Exilé de Capri," which was about the life of the Baron Jacques d'Adelsward-Fersen;"Notre Amour" in 1967; "L'Enfant de Coeur" in 1978; "Les Clés de Saint-Pierre" in 1953 which attacked the Roman Catholic church; "Alexandre le Grand," "Les Ambassadors," and his graphic memoirs, "Propos Secrets." He died in Paris of Parkinson's Disease. He adopted actor Alain-Philippe Malagnac at age 12, after their meeting on the set of the 1964 film "Les amitiés particulières."
