1998 Mercedes Benz Atego Renntruck Lohr

Following in the tire tracks of the 1450S and 1834S, the Atego race truck represented the third stage in the Mercedes-Benz race truck development program. The truck was powered by V6 engine providing output of 1100 kW (1495 hp). In 1998, its first season, Ludovic Faure drove the Atego to the European Truck Racing Cup (ETRC) title in the Super Race Class for purpose-built race trucks. In 2000 Atego finished runner up in the standings. Mercedes-Benz withdrew from truck racing at the end of the 2001 season.

In the 1998 ETRC season Atego was used by five teams. One of them was Team M-Classic Racing, established in 1997. The driver of the team for 1997 and 1998 was Ellen Lohr, German lady driver known for racing in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) in 1991-96 and in the International Touring Car Championship (ITC) in 1995-96. She achieved her best overall ranking in DTM in 1993 with tenth place. She celebrated her greatest racing success in the series in 1992 by winning the first race at the Hockenheimring. This makes her the first and so far only woman to have won a race in the DTM. After the DTM and ITC were discontinued at the end of the 1996 season, Lohr entered the European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) for two years. In 1997 Lohr was 12th in the Super Trucks, and in 1998 finished the season 7th, scoring a single podium  – in Cup race two at Misano.

After a break in which she drove again in touring car and GT racing series and in off-road competitions, she competed again in the ETRC from 2012 to 2016. Her best driver championship result was ninth in 2016. Lohr ended her official career in 2016 with a second place at the season finale of the European Truck Racing Championship in Le Mans.
