Second-Half Comeback Sends Tech to Regional Finals

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team used two second-half goals from Lydia Carroll and Lauryn Wood to send the Panthers to the Regional Finals of the NCAA Tournament.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Both teams battled for possession to begin the match. Lee managed two shots in the first 10 minutes, but both were off target.
  • The Panthers got the first shot on target in the 20th minute when Marem Ndiongue took a rip at the goal, but Lee's keeper was able to make the save.
  • After some more back and forth in the midfield, Lee threatened to score in the 36th minute, but Ayana Aoyagi was there to stop the shot for Tech.
  • With the clock winding down in the first half, the Lady Flames scored the first goal of the match off a corner kick to send the teams into halftime with a score of 1-0.
  • The Panthers came out of halftime and began to dominate possession. Josefine Nilsen applied pressure with a shot in the 57th minute, but her attempt was saved by Lee's keeper.
  • Just two minutes later, Lydia Carroll put Tech on the board with a strike off her left foot from just outside the box.
  • The Panthers continued to bring the pressure on the offensive end of the pitch with four more shots in the next 10 minutes. Lauryn Wood finally broke through after she slipped through the defense and beat the keeper to give Tech the 2-1 advantage in the 72nd minute.
  • Both teams battled in the remaining minutes and traded shots and possession. A red card on the Lady Flames in the 83rd minute all but secured the win for Tech and the Panthers came away with the 2-1 victory.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 5-6-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. (Seven for eight in penalty shootouts).
  • The Panthers also improved to 1-1-1 against Lee. All three meetings have been in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Lydia Carroll scored her first goal as a member of Florida Tech.
  • The Panthers will be advancing to the Regional Final for the third time in program history. The Panthers previously made it to the finals in 2010 and 2021.
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will take on the winner between Embry-Riddle and Nova Southeastern in the South Region Final of the NCAA Tournament. Time and location is still to be determined.
