When rumors surfaced that Sony was developing a handheld device, fans hoped to see a new PlayStation Portable or PS Vita but they were treated with PlayStation Portal. It’s been a long wait for players looking to get their hands on a new PlayStation handheld but Sony has stayed away from the handheld market after PS Vita couldn’t even beat PlayStation Portable sales.
However, it might be about to change soon as rumors suggest that Sony is working on a new PlayStation Portable. Some specifications for the handheld have also been leaked and fans are already hyped to get their hands on a new next-gen PlayStation handheld.
Rumors suggest Sony May Be Working on a PlayStation Handheld
The rumor comes from popular YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead who stated in his latest video that he has heard from his sources that Sony is working on a new PlayStation handheld and it is already in “early development” stages. It is also claimed that money has already exchanged hands with Sony paying chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to begin the development of the handheld.
The handheld device is rumored to be called “PS Vita 2” but the name has not been confirmed yet the device is currently said to be in the “High-Level Design” phase and no design has been finalized as of now so there are chances that the handheld device may never come to fruition.
The device is also said to be in the “same line” as the Steam deck and would be able to play all PS4 and PS5 titles, meaning that it will not have to develop new games just for the handheld. This handheld will be different than the newly released PS Portal as it will natively play games.
YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead also spoke about the specifications of the handheld, revealing that his sources have said that it is “plausible” that the PS Vita 2 could feature the same computing unit as the PS4 which has 18CUs and this would easily run PS4 games but it would be hard to run PS5 games smoothly so there could be handheld patches for games to run on the handheld device.
It is also claimed that the device could have a GPU clock speed of 1.8GHz or lower and would maintain “backward compatibility” with PS4 digital games. It is also added that the handheld is planned for the PS6 family so there are still years before it’s launched. Moreover, the YouTuber revealed that AMD and Sony are working on PS6 too and this could be a weaker variant of the next console for a good price point. However, there are still years out before we get an official reveal
Fans Are Hyped About the Rumored PlayStation Handheld
The rumors of the PlayStation handheld have been making rounds online and fans are already excited about it. The PlayStation Portal has been quite popular despite the initial skepticism and criticism for it being a cloud gaming device but it was soon sold out after it went on sale.
This proved that many want a handheld for PS games and Sony seems to be going for it. Sony fans have said that their voices have been heard and they are going to get the device upon release. A fan said, “I will 100% get this if it’s good. Portal felt like it could’ve and should’ve been so much more.” Several other PS Vita fans are also keen to get a new PS handheld.
Thanks to the ppl supporting PS Portal such as I. To show Playstation that there is still an audience that want to take there PS library on the go. Trading in that PS Portal with the quickness for this PS vita 2 successor

However, some fans also expressed their skepticism about the handheld adding that they’re not interested if it only plays PS4 and PS5 games. Some also added that it can not be on the same line as Steam Deck. A fan said, “Assuming this is real, which I unfortunately doubt after the crap that was PS Portal, it would be quite neat to have. Hopefully, they’ll support it more than they did with the PS Vita.”
Now this I can get behind!
I miss my PS Vita…
Bring it on!#PSPortable #GameOn
