Will David Suchet return to the Poirot mysteries?

Are there any more Poirot series planned? David Suchet is the best. —Robert La France

You are correct, Robert: David Suchet is the best, Poirot at least. He nailed the Belgian detective in the Agatha Christie series (now airing in repeats on the Biography Channel) down to his perfectly organized moustaches. Albert Finney’s Poirot in 1974’s feature film Murder on the Orient Express had a bit much machismo (Finney can’t help it) and Peter Ustinov’s Poirot, well, he had white hair (a huge no-no, as any Christie fan knows). While we can hope for a Suchet return, we can sate ourselves on certain treats: Check out Suchet’s TV Poirot in Death on the Nile, one of the most famous (and twisty) Christie mysteries, and you can also catch The Devil Wears Prada‘s Emily Blunt, playing an even bitchier character — a treacherous, soon-to-be murdered heiress. For more Christie, rent 1982’s feature film Evil Under the Sun, a funny, beautifully filmed whodunit with Ustinov as Poirot and Harry Potter‘s Maggie Smith as a former dance girl — directed by Guy Hamilton, who helmed several James Bond films, including Goldfinger. Finally, if you’re looking for a bit of summer reading, may I heartily recommend The Hollow, one of the all-time best of Christie’s Poirot mysteries. Get the official audiobook version and it comes (almost) full circle: It’s narrated by Hugh Fraser, who plays Captain Hastings to Suchet’s Poirot.
