Famille rose square vase with depictions of heroes. Late Qing period, 19th century. Square vase with indented neck decorated in famille rose colors with figures from the Wu Shuang Pu: the Confucian scholar Fu Sheng of the Qin and Han periods, the general Sun Ce of the Han period, the politician Di Renjie (Liang Gong) and the empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty. The Wu Shuang Pu (Listing of Peerless Heroes) is a book of woodblock prints by painter Jin Guliang published in 1694, and contains biographies and imaginary portraits of 40 notable figures who lived in the period from the late Han to the end of the Song Dynasty, each accompanied by poems.
