wait, camera. That cable could be a 4-conductor FireWire-400 cable (sans power).

look at these from Wikipedia.

left is 4-conductor, used on cameras. Right is 6-conductor, "regular" FireWire-400 cable end.

Please Identify which build model MacBook Pro 15-inch you have.

(Just spent a bit of time looking through, to not learn which ports

your build model year MacBook Pro has; to guess at some adapter.)

Those are both FireWire-800 connectors. If you say the cable is male, then it should fit, but the fit is always tight and "fiddly".

FireWire-400 cables use a very different looking connector that is pointed at one end.

last time I shopped for these they were sold as:

9-wire (FireWire-800)

6-wire (FireWire-400 "regular" with power)

4-wire (firewire-400 sans power)

converters were sold such as 4-to-6 and 6-to-9 and 4-to-9. Using any converters dropped the bus speed to Firewire 400 speeds, and not including power was not an issue for self-powered devices.

I think that should do it for you, when used with the Apple ThunderBolt-to-Firewire-800 adapter you pictured earlier..

When using cables other than FireWire-800 cables, the speed converts automatically to FireWire-400 speeds. (Still comparable to rotating magnetic disk speeds.)

Those connectors are the same type. EXACTLY the same.

But both of those appear to be "female".
