Happy June, everybody! Before summer even officially begins, we’re coming in hot with the first Woman Crush Wednesday of the month to celebrate one of the wonderful women who, for over two decades, has been steadily tearing it up on screens big and small. But before you see her make waves in a brand new show premiering this week, we’re here to get you up-to-date on some of the terrific things she’s accomplished thus far. So, without further ado, give it up for this week’s WCW, the delightful Dania Ramirez!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Dania Ramirez
WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Ramirez plays Aimee in upcoming Netflix Original fantasy drama series Sweet Tooth, which premieres on the platform this Friday, June 4th. The show follows a boy named Gus (Christian Conver) who is half human and half deer, as he tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where hybrids are feared and hunted. Gus unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), and together they embark on a stunning journey across America that is full of self-discovery, encounters with friends and foes, and learning some (at times difficult) life lessons along the way. In addition to Ramirez, Conver, and Anozie, the show also features Stefania LaVie Owen, Will Forte, and Aliza Vellani.
Sweet Tooth has already garnered plenty of attention and praise from publications like Digital SpyGizmondo, us here at Decider, and more, which commend everything from the talented cast to the sharp writing to the skilled directing. This show, which is a slightly more light-hearted adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s comic book series of the same name, has been described as “phenomenal,” a “gorgeous dystopian fairytale,” and “a tale as old as time, and a tale that could only be told now,” so do yourself a favor and see what all the hype is about by watching Ramirez and the rest of the cast’s amazing work in Sweet Tooth as soon as it hits Netflix this week.
WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Ramirez’s professional onscreen career began in 1998, when she appeared as “Jay-Z’s Girl” in rapper Jay-Z’s musical film Streets is Watching. Just a few years later, she played Daphne in 2002 Spike Lee-directed drama film 25th Hour, which opened the door to numerous roles on all different kinds of projects shortly thereafter, including work in shows like Buffy the Vampire SlayerRun of the House, and Romy and Michele: In the Beginning, and movies like 2004 drama Cross Bronx, 2004 comedy-drama She Hate Me, and 2004 comedy Fat Albert.
From there, Ramirez began landing roles that earned her even more recognition and mainstream success, namely as Blanca Selgado in acclaimed HBO crime-drama series The Sopranos, Maya Herrera in NBC superhero drama series Heroes, Alex in HBO comedy-drama series Entourage, Rosie Falta in ABC comedy-drama series Devious Maids, and Callisto in 2006 superhero film X-Men: The Last Stand. Throughout the following years, Ramirez continued to put out consistently high-quality work that spanned multiple genres and formats, accumulating an impressive and diverse filmography along the way.

In more recent years, the actress has added television shows like Once Upon A TimeJustice League Action, and Tell Me A Story, as well as films like American ReunionPremium RushMojaveSuicide Squad: Hell to Pay, and Jumanji: The Next Level to her repertoire. Ramirez truly has an exemplary body of work that only continues to grow in size and depth with each year, so be sure to keep an eye out for the many more years of success and binge-worthy projects that she’ll be a part of in the years to come.
WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we’re not sure what’s next role-wise for Ramirez, you can keep up with the actress in the meantime by following her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Don’t miss out on the latest from this week’s awesome WCW!
