Description
English: Portrait of Louis Philippe I, Duke of Orléans (1725-1785), misidentified with his brother-in-law Louis François, Prince of Conti (1717-1776).
Contrary to the later inscription, this work does not in fact depict the Prince de Conti, but instead the Duke d'Orléans. This half-length portrait is influenced by a similar, three quarter-length depiction by Louis-Michel van Loo showing Louis Philippe wearing a breastplate and the blue sash of the Ordre du Saint-Esprit.
