The Duddon Valley

For a great nearby area to explore, look no further than The Duddon Valley. Located in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, it offers unrivalled walks with spectacular views. There you can take in the breathtaking fells, and meander through forests and woodlands next to calming riverbanks and quaint little streams. The area was made for walkers, it truly is a ramblers paradise. There are a host of footpaths to explore, perfect for having picnics and are accessible by car.

Canoeing is a popular past-time around those parts, as is rock-climbing. There are plenty of qualified instructors and nearby facilities to cater for this. The local wildlife are impressive too, the native Herdwicks graze and roam at large and you may also see buzzards soaring overhead. The elusive red squirrel is alive and well in the valley and on a rare occasion you may spot a falcon if you’re lucky.

If you’re seeking a cosy pub or tea room after your walk, the market town of Broughton-in-Furness, is nearby. There are also the tiny villages of Ulpha and Seathwaite two focal points of the valley. Seathwaite, appears where the ancient Walna Scar road terminates and boasts the 16th century Newfield Inn, a great spot for a well earned pit-stop!
