Climbing in Romsdalen

Three spectacular climbs

From USD 0

On this trip, there are only two spots, and these spots are sold together, so the total price remains the same whether there is one or two participants. This means that the price per person is NOK 29,900 if there are two participants, and one must pay for two persons if traveling alone.

We stay at the lovely Hotel Aak, where we enjoy good food in cozy surroundings. Both breakfast and a four-course dinner are savored around the long table in the dining room built with logs dating back to the 19th century. The dinners are based on Nordic culinary traditions and include local ingredients.

We choose the trips ourselves based on weather and preferences, but obvious alternatives include Romsdalshorn, Store Vengetind, and Kvanndalstind. Join us on a trip to the peak capital Åndalsnes.

Åndalsnes is rightly referred to as the Peak Capital of Norway. Here, the sharp mountain peaks are close together, and the alpine feel is easily sensed. Since we have three days available for touring we can tailor the excursions based on weather conditions, increasing the chances of summiting one or more of the true classics. We can also vary the length and steepness of the climbs according to the participants' preferences.

Highlights:

  • Comfortable accommodation at the historic Hotel Aak
  • Food made from scratch with local ingredients
  • Four-course dinners
  • Climbing some of Norway's finest mountains
  • Guided by an experienced mountain guide

This is the dream trip for those who want to stay comfortably, eat good food, undertake exciting trips in magnificent surroundings, and have a few days to adjust plans based on weather conditions. Initially we had the fantastic peak climbing trips in mind when creating this tour but it is also possible to incorporate one or more days of less strenuous hikes if the participants prefer that.

Physical level

3/6 Physical

Some segments of the journey may prove challenging. It's essential to possess a solid level of fitness prior to departure. Persistence will be required in reaching the trip's goal.

Comfort level

5/6 Comfort

Good to high quality hotels with good meals, ambience and service. Accommodation with a special touch.

Risk level

3/6 Risk

Activities/trips with some risk. Certain incidents may occur, and they may be of such a nature that they may require professional help.

Training and Preparations

This trip is designed for participants who are used to day trips in the mountains and can undertake three consecutive tours. However, as long as the participants agree on the level we aim for, there is no inherent need for the trips to be very long. Having experience with scrambling and light climbing is an advantage but not a requirement. The advantage of this trip is that the two participants sign up together, and we agree on the program, allowing us to tailor the days to a suitable level.

Accommodatio and Meals

Stay in double rooms at the historic Hotel Aak, in the spectacular and beautiful Romsdalen. We have breakfast with delicious homemade bread, prepare packed lunches, and enjoy dinners at the hotel. All with a generous serving of Nordic culinary traditions, local ingredients, and homemade dishes.

Transport

You can reach Åndalsnes by train and then proceed to Hotel Aak by rental car or you can use a rental car for the entire journey. Transportation to the individual tours will be done by car.

Transport is not included but please feel free to contact us if you would like us to organize transportation for the entire journey.

Day 2:First day touring. Perhaps today will be a good day for ascending Romsdalshorn?

After a hearty and delicious breakfast, it's time for an adventure. Perhaps we'll start with a hike to Romsdalshorn, or maybe it's suitable for an introductory day at lower altitudes? Back at the hotel, we can enjoy something refreshing in our glasses while taking in the view of the peaks. In the evening, there will be good food and planning for the next day.

Day 3:Is this the day for a trip to Store Vengetind?

Perhaps today we'll follow in Slingsby's footsteps and have breakfast at Hotel Aak before ascending Store Vengetind, then enjoy dinner back in the valley? Or maybe the allure lies in a trip up Trollstigen and a climbing adventure on Bispen.

Day 4:Last touring day

We'll see what the weather allows and how long of a hike we feel like, but during these days, Kvanndalstind is also a peak worth considering. If we've had a shorter hike on one of the previous days, we might extend today's journey a bit. Alternatively, if we've enjoyed good weather and long days so far, a slightly shorter hike might be fitting before departure.
