Surrealism is when an artwork looks unreal. When it is made up and is fantasy like. Usually it surprises you and makes you look at many different areas of the artwork due to the variety of vanishing points. Surrealism is a cultural art movement, which started in the early 1920’s. This was the most influential movement of art. André Breton, who wrote a book called Le Manifeste du Surréalisme, started this movement. In this book, he defined surrealism as “Psychic automatism in its pure state, by which one proposes to express - verbally, by means of the written word, or in any other manner - the actual functioning of thought”. This seems to me like a very accurate and broadening definitions. | Antithèse, by Victor Bruaner |
