As the state philosophy of the Joseon dynasty, Confucianism permeated everyday life. The décor of this bottle features eight Chinese characters that embody Confucian ideals: filial piety 孝, brotherly love 悌, loyalty 忠, integrity or trust 信, propriety 禮, righteousness 義, honesty 廉, and humility 恥.
